IN OUR COMMUNITY: Nebraska For Us closes out August with series of community events

As summer comes to an end and the kids head back to school, Nebraska For Us has been around the metro connecting with members of the community to spark conversations on economic policies that impact working families.

On Sunday, August 18, Nebraska For Us held a community discussion in Gretna on the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act and successful Medicare price negotiations for lifesaving drugs. This first round of negotiations between Medicare and some of the country’s largest drugmakers will lead to price cuts anywhere from 39% to 78% beginning in January 2026.

We were pleased to welcome Tony Bock, the host of OMAPOD, who sat down with State Director Angie Lauritsen to talk more about the importance of advocating for people in our community along with tax fairness. You can listen to the full interview here.

Then, on Thursday, August 22, Nebraska For Us teamed up with Heartland Workers Center, hosting an event in South Omaha where we welcomed families and enjoyed free paletas while discussing issues related to cuts to SNAP in the Farm Bill.

As the calendar turns to September and the leaves begin falling, Nebraska For Us will turn our attention heavily toward the 2017 GOP Tax Law as its provisions expire at the end of 2025. We believe policies should be geared toward working class and middle income Nebraskans rather than slashing taxes for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.
