NEBRASKA FOR US BRINGS COMMUNITY COFFEE CONNECT TOUR TO SOUTH OMAHA
On Saturday, May 4, Nebraska For Us hosted the latest stop of its Community Coffee Connect tour across Congressional District 2 at Yireh’s Cafe—a new coffee shop located near 20th & Vinton in South Omaha.
The subject of the latest discussion was tied to Social Security. Right now, there are proposals in Congress that are meant to defend the program that is widely used across the country:
Roughly 365,000 Nebraskans receive Social Security benefits, including more than 277,000 retirees, according to the Social Security Administration
Nationally, 70 million Americans receive benefits from the Social Security Administration each month
“Time and time again, Social Security’s safety has been threatened, while members of our federal delegation serve in coalitions that suggest raising the retirement age—therefore cutting benefits for people who have paid into the program their entire working lives,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “The reality is there are workable solutions at the federal level that don’t require raising the retirement age or cutting benefits—like reforming our tax code so that corporations and billionaires pay their fair share.”
Nebraska For Us calls on Congressman Don Bacon to support H.R.4583, which would increase benefits, lower taxes for middle income recipients, and close loopholes that keep the wealthy from paying their fair share.
