Nebraska For Us statement on Fed’s interest rate pause
“With the Federal Reserve’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged, it means working class and middle income Nebraskans will continue spending more money on various forms of borrowing, from credit cards to car loans and mortgages.
“While lawmakers are unable to affect the Fed’s decision-making process and outcomes, there are moves they can take this year to help make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling to pay their bills and make ends meet. Creating a fairer tax code—instead of giving more handouts to billionaires and corporations—as the 2017 GOP Tax Law is set to expire is the perfect starting point.
“The original law disproportionately benefited the wealthy and corporations, while doing next to nothing for working families. As the high cost of groceries and other goods are top of mind, passing the savings to those who need it most is the right way to go. We call on Congressman Don Bacon to keep his promise to focus on bringing costs down rather than prioritizing handouts for the rich and corporations. He should do the right thing and put working families first.”
