NEBRASKA FOR US, PARTNERS HOST HEADSHOTS & HAPPY HOUR

Coalition of organizations sought to foster networking and community at downtown gathering

OMAHA, Nebraska (February 20, 2024)— Nebraska For Us and four partner organizations welcomed dozens of professionals for an evening of connections and community. Heartland Workers Center, Latino Economic Development Council, She’s Electable Nebraska, and Casa de la Cultura/Cinco de Mayo Omaha encouraged people to come together and spruce up their professional portfolios as part of Headshots & Happy Hour.

“Nebraska For Us is committed to helping better the lives of our working class and middle income neighbors and friends,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “With employers across a variety of industries in a battle for the top talent, we are doing what we can to help prospective employees put their best foot forward.”

In recent months, Nebraska For Us has begun getting involved in community events and forums, while also opening up a dialogue for members of our community to lift up their voices on subjects of economic importance for working class and middle income Nebraskans.

Nebraska For Us supports a host of positive economic policies and initiatives, including:

  • The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which has created good-paying jobs and increased economic activity nationwide.

  • The CHIPS Act, which has increased domestic manufacturing, bolstered the supply chain and made the U.S. more economically competitive with China.

  • Increasing the federal minimum wage.

“Our mission to support workers’ rights has to start with those workers finding employment,” Heartland Workers Center Executive Director Lina Traslaviña Stover, Ph.D. said. “From the very beginning, we have been proud to partner with Nebraska For Us to advocate for policies that benefit the professionals we support among a wide array of jobs.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity to provide a valuable connection for many of our area’s hardworking professionals,” said Itzel López, Latino Economic Development Council Co-Founder and CEO. “Our motto is ‘Empowering Our Community, Building a Stronger Futuro Together,’ and this gathering tonight is a prime example of how to do that. We seek to spur economic growth for the metro’s Latino community, which helps benefit all of us.”

Nebraska For Us focuses on economic issues in Congressional District 2 and across the state, including increasing wages and lowering the cost of living. We have those goals in mind so families don’t have to worry about their ability to put food on the table and a roof over their loved ones’ heads.
