NEBRASKA FOR US KICKS OFF COMMUNITY COFFEE CONNECT TOUR

On Wednesday, January 31, Nebraska For Us hosted its inaugural stop of the Community Coffee Connect tour across Congressional District 2 at the Omaha Public Library’s Benson Branch. The goal of the tour is to welcome members of the public to engage in discussions about economic policies and proposals that affect them.

“The Community Coffee Connect tour is a prime example of our promise to provide a community service to people who live in the Second Congressional District,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “It is easy to get lost in the noise of what is happening in Washington, which makes a lively and informative discussion on the issues so important.”

The subject of the first roundtable was tied to Social Security, a vital lifeline for seniors and people with disabilities. Right now, there are proposals in Congress that are meant to defend Social Security—a program that is widely used across the country:

“It is refreshing to welcome a diverse group of people who are interested in sharing their perspectives, learning about the issues, and hearing the opinions of others,” Nebraska For Us Regional Organizing Director Anna Hernandez said. “We hope this is just the start of a much larger dialogue across other economic issues, including taxes, jobs, the cost of living, and many others.”

Nebraska For Us calls on Congressman Don Bacon to support H.R.4583, which would increase benefits, lower taxes for middle income recipients, and close loopholes that keep the wealthy from paying their fair share. You can contact his office by calling (402) 938-0300 or by visiting the Nebraska For Us advocacy page.

The next Community Coffee Connect tour stop will be in Gretna in early March. You can follow Nebraska For Us on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X for the latest updates on what’s happening in the community, along with information about our events and developments in Washington.
