Nebraska For Us statement on drastic cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services

“In an unfortunate move, thousands of jobs will be cut from the Department of Health and Human Services and billions of dollars in funding for states to administer addiction treatment, distribute vaccines, track the spread of diseases, and more.

“The Omaha metro area is a hub for medical research, infectious disease management, and higher education—all areas of focus that have faced funding cuts rather than enhanced support since the Trump Administration returned to power in January. The United States and Nebraska should be leaders in health, science, education, and a host of other industries. These cuts will do the opposite.

“Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation must stand against these cuts and fight for Nebraskans who are potentially facing a loss in key economic opportunities that could help shape the future. When there is an increase in contagious diseases like measles breaking out, this is a step in the wrong direction. It is time for our lawmakers to stand up for hardworking Nebraskans.”

-State Director Angie Lauritsen
