Nebraska For Us statement on new Congress and tax policy priorities

“Working class Nebraskans and small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and we know that fears about prices are top of mind. Any tax policies that disproportionately benefit the wealthy and balloon the national debt could have a serious impact on inflation and interest rates.

Economists fear more deficit-increasing tax cuts and tariffs that fall on the backs of working families could cause inflation to increase once again, pushing prices even higher. That’s why it is critical that any tax policies Congress passes next year as they approach the expiration of provisions in the 2017 GOP Tax Law MUST ensure corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share and put money back in the pockets of working class Americans so that they can afford to put food on the table.

“The rich already got their tax cuts—and they didn’t trickle down to the rest of us. It’s time to focus that energy on everyday Nebraskans. Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation have an opportunity to relieve the squeeze American consumers are facing by putting more money in the pockets of those who need it most.

“We simply can’t trust the ultra-wealthy and corporations to pass those savings down. When Congress addresses the expiring provisions in the 2017 Tax Law, will they side with the rich or with hardworking Nebraskans? We’ll be watching.”
