Nebraska For Us statement on President-elect Trump’s price and tax comments

“Today, President-elect Trump has walked back a key promise to lower grocery prices. We know prices have been a key pain point for consumers in recent years, and lawmakers should be doing everything in their power to provide relief to people feeling the squeeze of inflation.

“Those comments publicized this morning in an interview with Time were immediately followed by a statement to business leaders at the New York Stock Exchange indicating he’d like to cut the corporate tax rate even further—from 21% to 15%.

“Our federal delegation should focus on a fairer tax code that prioritizes providing relief to working class and middle income Nebraskans. An irresponsible and expensive move like cutting the corporate tax rate rather than prioritizing those who desperately need relief will only make the tax code less fair and fail to help working families.

“The new Congress plans to start moving quickly come January 3. Nebraska For Us calls on our members to show us they will side with hardworking Nebraskans rather than the ultra-wealthy and big corporations. People want relief from high costs, and they don’t want to see their elected leaders turning their backs on them in their time of need and instead help the rich get richer.”
