Nebraska For Us statement on government shutdown threat as House Republicans blow up bipartisan plan
“External forces and House Republicans have blown up a bipartisan deal to fund the government through March that would have provided $1.5 BILLION in disaster relief for Nebraska—including much-needed aid to our state’s farmers struggling with natural disasters impacting their livelihoods, along with flood prevention efforts.
“The decision of House Republicans to torpedo a bipartisan deal means we’re less than 36 hours away from a government shutdown. There’s no solid backup plan, which means vital services may be impacted and federal employees living paycheck to paycheck will be forced to work without pay or be furloughed. Instead of enjoying the holidays with family, now they’ll worry about making ends meet. That’s on top of concerns from our farmers who are counting on desperately needed disaster relief.
“Enough with the dysfunction. All this will do is add stress on Nebraskans who are just trying to put food on the table, especially those working for the federal government from members of the Air Force at Offutt to TSA officers at Eppley. Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation should stand up for their constituents and pass a budget bill that works for farmers, families, and federal employees while funding the government.”
