Nebraska For Us statement on swearing-in of new Congress, legislative priorities
“Following the tumultuous end of the 118th Congress where we narrowly avoided a harmful government shutdown after House Republicans reneged on a bipartisan agreement, Nebraska For Us is holding hope that members of Nebraska’s federal delegation work to find common ground and support economic policies that put working class and middle income Nebraskans first.
“We expect the House to move quickly on pursuing an extension of the 2017 GOP Tax Law, including the potential for a further drop in the corporate tax rate. Instead, they should pursue tax policy that puts working class and middle income Americans first. They’re the ones facing challenges with the rising cost of living, and Congress should focus their efforts on preserving the good life for them—not the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.
“With concerns about persistent inflation, the threat of tariffs, and elevated interest rates, hardworking Nebraskans are doing what they can to put food on the table and keep a roof over their families’ heads. The impact of a fairer tax code would go a long way to help them, unlike more tax breaks for billionaires. We know from the last go-around – the massive tax breaks for those at the top did not trickle down to the rest of us.
“Will Congressman Don Bacon side with the ultra-wealthy or with hardworking Nebraskans in the 119th Congress? We’ll be watching closely.”
