Nebraska For Us statement on December jobs report, cost-of-living challenges

“While we’ve sustained a long streak of historically low unemployment, it is clear that employment alone is not enough for working class and middle income Nebraskans to feel economically secure.

“As costs continue to rise on goods across the board, along with the looming threat of widespread tariffs that could send prices soaring, there are a wide range of challenges facing consumers in our own backyard. One place for our federal delegation, including Congressman Don Bacon, to start is by creating a fairer tax code.

“Massive tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations have not trickled down to the rest of us. While Congress debates extending and expanding the 2017 GOP Tax Law this year, it’s on all of us to call on our representatives to put money back in the pockets of those who are just trying to make it to their next paycheck. When families are struggling under high prices and people are working multiple jobs to put food on the table, it would be a betrayal to focus more attention toward the ultra-rich and big corporations and cut their taxes even further.”
