OMAHA, Neb. (KETV) - A local nonprofit is getting help making sure Omaha families are warm this winter.

Nebraska For Us gave the North Omaha Community Partnership a $2,500 grant on Friday.

It also donated new winter coats for the group's Winter Wonderland coat and gift giveaway this weekend.

They'll serve 143 families, meaning just over 400 coats.

"The coats, to me, are most important because of the community that we serve. Like, this is a basic need that not everyone can afford," Tamika Mease, North Omaha Community Partnership executive director, said.

"There were kiddos at bus stops today. Either not wearing coats or wearing coats that don't fit them. And how I am so proud that we are able to partner with you," Angie Lauritsen, Nebraska For Us state director, said.

The North Omaha Community Partnership said the grant will allow it to continue providing services to people in crisis, from food pantries to diapers and more.
