Nebraska For Us statement on tariffs taking effect today

“Following a one-month delay, these harmful tariffs have now taken effect, as of this morning. Some business leaders are warning prices on household essentials could increase within the coming days. Expect painful price increases on gas, groceries, and everyday goods.

“At a time when inflation is top-of-mind for working class Nebraskans, further rapid price increases will only make that problem worse. Following improvements in the inflation rate throughout 2024, this would cause it to go right back up.

“It’s time for Congressman Don Bacon to denounce tariffs that will raise prices for his constituents. President Donald Trump and House Republicans have suggested these tariffs would help pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations. The costs of tariffs will cause the greatest harm to those making the lowest incomes. Hardworking Nebraskans deserve a fairer tax code. Tariffs are a move in the wrong direction.”
