Nebraska For Us “Week of Action” welcomes hundreds across the metro
On a busy recess week for the House of Representatives, Nebraska For Us teamed up with multiple organizations for a “Week of Action”—a nationwide push in conjunction with Fair Share America. Our team hosted and attended a variety of events throughout the community to raise awareness about the ongoing executive funding cuts that have already disrupted essential programs, proposed funding cuts to health care and food assistance programs, and incoming tariffs that will raise costs on gas, groceries, cars, and other goods for Nebraskans—all to pay for more tax breaks for corporations and billionaires.
Beginning Monday, February 17, Nebraska For Us joined hundreds of community allies as the ACLU of Nebraska hosted its “People Power Action: Freedom from Executive Overreach.” There, various organizations shared how extreme executive orders and funding pauses from the federal government affect the vital work they do.

The following day was a Virtual Day of Action, where Nebraska For Us encouraged followers and supporters to avoid the record-breaking cold temperatures and take action from the comfort of their own homes. Specifically, we called for constituents to reach out to their representatives across the state to urge them to stand against harmful benefit cuts.
On Wednesday, February 19, Nebraska For Us was joined by members of the community looking to discuss what’s happening in Washington over coffee during the lunch hour. Guests at the Omaha Public Library location at 90th & Fort told us they have become more aware of the dysfunction in D.C. and simply want to do what they can to have their voices heard. Overall, there is wide opposition to extreme cuts being considered by the House of Representatives.
To close the Nebraska For Us “Week of Action,” we welcomed more than 100 guests to Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering where we drove home the message of the dangers of cutting benefits like Medicaid and SNAP, especially at a time when food insecurity remains high amid crushing inflation. Additional organizations shared their perspectives on these matters including North Omaha Community Partnership, Charles Drew Health Center, Bellevue Food Pantry, and Live On Nebraska.

“We are blown away by the sheer intensity of the public outcry in the last few weeks,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “At every single event during the Week of Action, I have been stopped by multiple people asking me how they can get involved and get the attention of Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation. People want their voices heard during such an important moment.”
Since 2023, Nebraska For Us has focused on how federal economic policies affect working class and middle income Nebraskans. Amid the challenges of rising costs, proposed funding cuts to health care and food assistance, looming tariffs, federal funding chaos, and more, now is the time to call attention to tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the wealthy. Congress must put the working class first instead of taking away key programs they rely on.
