STATEMENT ON THE CLOSE OF INAUGURAL MEDICARE DRUG PRICE NEGOTIATIONS

“As we hit the second anniversary of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act on Friday, it is important we take the time to recognize just how monumental this day truly is. After a months-long back and forth of intense negotiations, Medicare has announced the results of these inaugural discussions with some of the country’s biggest names in pharmaceuticals.

“Many of our nation’s seniors are on fixed incomes—even after decades of paying into Social Security and Medicare—which is why these lowered prices provide much needed relief for those living paycheck to paycheck in their golden years.

“These are not run-of-the-mill medications—they’re some of the most expensive drugs on the market that treat everything from diabetes and heart disease to blood clots and cancer.

“Despite Congressman Don Bacon publicly voicing opposition to the Inflation Reduction Act and voting against it in 2022, Nebraska For Us sincerely hopes he can recognize the wide-ranging benefits from this transformational law. While some of his conservative colleagues hope to one day repeal this legislation, we call on him to protect it for the benefit of working class and middle income Nebraskans.”
