Nebraska For Us statement on presidential inauguration, economic policies
“The start of a new presidency means we can expect a lot of changes to happen in record time. Republicans in Congress have made it clear they would like to tackle a wide range of policies this year. Perhaps the most contentious is what to do about the 2017 GOP Tax Law.
“As we focus on how economic policies benefit working class and middle income Nebraskans, it is our fundamental belief that something needs to change. Extending or expanding the law to continue disproportionately benefiting the wealthy and corporations is a betrayal of the working class who are dealing with the challenges of rising costs as we speak. The threat of paying for those tax breaks for the rich with tariffs that will increase prices will only make that problem worse.
“We call on Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation to put hardworking families first. Time and time again, he has told Nebraska For Us he wants to help the middle class. However, that desire rings hollow when he remains silent on why he supports a law that prioritizes the ultra-wealthy and includes massive corporate tax breaks that have not trickled down to people just trying to keep a roof over their heads.
“We need a fairer tax code, and now is the perfect time to make that happen. Help those who need it the most!”
